Cristiano Ronaldo-Leo Messi: Who is the richest?

C. Ronaldo and L. Messi vie for talent and genius in order to always glean more titles and personal distinctions. A race to fame that aims to extend to the financial field.

The Goal Rich List just appeared. Established every year by a group of experts, the study comes to dedicate the world’s richest footballers, with a number of criteria such as known salaries, personal properties or the commercial contracts of the players. A downside however: the final ranking does not consider their bank accounts. A Priori without great surprise, it makes the beautiful part of the old gold balloons. Four of them appear in the Top 10 of the most fortunate players: C. Ronaldo (2008, 2013, 2014), Lionel Messi (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), Kaka (2007) and Ronaldinho (2005) … Strong of an exceptional 2014 year, crowned by a victory in the Champions League and World Cup clubs with Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo, denigrated by the Spanish press in recent weeks, emerges at the top of this ranking for the second Consecutive year. The Portuguese star is thus considered the world’s richest active player, with a personal fortune estimated at 210 million euros. The Golden Ball 2014 hollows out a little more the gap on Lionel Messi that he was from 2 million euros last year. With a fortune valued at 200 million euros, the Argentine star actually points to 10 million euros of its great rival.
Yet the worthy heir of Maradona perceives a higher salary than any other player in activity. In fact, FC Barcelona pays 20 million euros a year when the Madrid club annually disburses 18.2 million euros for its Portuguese prodigy. Moreover, Léo Messi has been able to take advantage of his own image to contract many lucrative partnerships, whether with the brand to the three bands Adidas, the Korean giant Samsung or the Italian luxury house Dolce & Gabbana. From this point of view, the Madrid star is not the rest: Cristiano Ronaldo releases 25 million euros from his multiple partnerships. The most lucrative of them being the one concluded with the American sportswear giant, Nike, which offered him the opportunity to launch his own line of CR7 clothing.
But beyond the salary paid by its club and its commercial contracts, the all-fresh-thirties has much more varied sources of income: a museum is thus specifically devoted to it in its hometown of Funchal, on the island of Madeira. The former Manchester United player also opened his own nightclub, the “Seven”, in the far south of Portugal. Finally, the mythical number 7 Portuguese is distinguished by an estimated real estate portfolio of 30 million euros. An area in which Lionel Messi, record of the triplets in La Liga, has nothing to envy him. Indeed, the player Blaugrana has invested in a gigantic complex that will house residential ensembles and will include a beach, a golf course as well as a sports complex … Just outside of his hometown of Rosario. Do you think the Argentine player will be able to take over his rival in 2015 and dethrone him in the ranking of the wealthiest players?
