Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo are the three finalists vying to be voted best European Player of the Year by UEFA.
A month ago, UEFA unveiled the list of 10 players vying to win the best European trophy of the year, among which were obviously the big stars, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Last night, the European Football Forum chaired by Michel Platini has reduced this list to three finalists, and you might as well say that there is no surprise. Indeed, among these finalists, one obviously finds Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and another Barca player in the person of Luis Suarez. The three players received the most points in a vote of journalists from the 54 UEFA member associations, taking into account national and international club performances throughout the season.
Of course, the favorite of the votes is no other than Lionel Messi, who still spread his entire class during Barca’s victory against FC Seville 5-4 in the European Supercup. With now four trophies, waiting for a fifth title potential with the Spanish Supercup, the Pulga inevitably crushes the competition. His teammate Luis Suarez, far from being foreign to all these successes, would have just as much merit to win this individual distinction. Finally, if he has not won anything this year, Cristiano Ronaldo remains Cristiano Ronaldo, and his individual statistics obviously plead in his favor. The winner will be unveiled on August 27th as part of the draw of the Champions League hen stages. Who do you think is the best European player of the year?
